He has his own observatory. He has his own 12 1/2" telescope. (900 inch focal length or 22860 mm lens) He built it, ground the mirror and put it together while living in Chicago. Then he moved to Madison County and built his own observatory alongside his house.

He just... built an observatory? What kind of crazy permits did he need for that? Who up and builds an observatory?

Does he allow school field trips?

maybe he thought he was a free individual on his own property & did not need a "permit". good for him

Its only 18 feet tall, its smaller than most grain silos and other farm buildings in the area. So i guess its fine.
