Candidate Nathan Deal in Watkinsville
Georgia gubernatorial candidate Nathan Deal walks off a bus past U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, right, as Republican candidates stop for a rally as part of a state-wide bus tour at Harris Shoals Park on Thursday, October 28, 2010 in Watkinsville, Ga.
I haven't had much of a chance to cover the major political races here in Georgia this election cycle, mainly because Athens is a major Democratic stronghold in a largely Republican state. The Republican Gubernatorial candidate came to the area and I tried to make some nice photos.
Politics is theater. Everything is stage managed, right down to what candidates eat in front of the press. This particular appearance was meant to be a picnic. Naturally, i try to break away from the very helpful PR staff and get something creative.
The major down side was the lack of people holding signs, cheering crowds, etc. It was a very low key, intimate event. It cuts both ways.

Yes, its a standard political shot. Yes, you need to turn it in.
Fill Flash!
The light filtering through the trees made for a few nice shots, like Deal looking at Paul Broun.
The angle of the light brought out the texture in his face. I'm not sure how much i like this, looking at it a week later.

Well, just for an opposing viewpoint, I think the near-silhouette of Deal is really good, maybe your best shot here. I'm not crazy about the man's ethics, but I think it's a very interesting photo.
