Snowpocalypse: The Day After

Brad McCook shovels snow in front of the double-barrelled cannon at City Hall on Monday, January 10, 2011 in Athens, Ga.

After 5 hours of sleep, it was time to get going and go back out into the snow. We woke up to nearly NINE inches of snow and there wasn't a bad photo anywhere.

Mode of transportation? Footware.

We started with a quick walk around downtown for an hour, finding that photo of the canon and the ACC Public Works folks shoveling off the steps to City Hall as well as Mike shoveling off from in front of The Grill and then back to the paper to post a fresh photo and find/make a plan.

Then we headed out for features and to find someone sledding. Which proved troublesome as the college kids were not out and about at 10AM.

Our first Snowplow.

A front end loader plows Sanford Drive in front of Sanford Stadium on Monday, January 10, 2011 in Athens, Ga.

UGA was crazy about plowing and clearing the snow.

Cars and trucks drive on Broad Street through the snow on Monday, January 10, 2011 in Athens, Ga.

There was an actual assignment I had to photograph that day as a speech commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the desegregation of the University of Georgia was still happening. (See tomorrow's blogpost for that) Once more we took to the streets and walked across UGA.

Emily Cooper, Hailey Chapman, and Carson LeCroy sled through the snow at the University of Georgia on Monday, January 10, 2011 in Athens, Ga.

These were the only people who had a real sled. This led A1.

University of Georgia senior Seth Hancock is pulled through the snow on a surfboard by his dog on Monday, January 10, 2011 in Athens, Ga.

It took forever for the dog to loose interest in a pile of snow and to start pulling him again. What was more amazing was that it took 2 days to get the sidewalks clear.

Students build a snow fort around a snowman on Myers Quad at the University of Georgia on Monday, January 10, 2011 in Athens, Ga.

Calvin & Hobbes style snowman and fort.
