Playing Tourist in DC

Every once in awhile, we all want to play tourist. I grew up around DC and there are so many photos that i always wanted to take, but never did. Now that I am 600 miles away, i can't exactly just up and do it anymore.... but when given the chance, i will force march myself around until i drop.

Los Meesfits at Caledonia (Back-to-School Edition)

Mere hours after i finished driving into Athens, my friends in Los Meesfits played a show at the Caledonia Lounge. After ten hours of driving, spanish salsa music and dancing (complete with machete!) was exactly what was needed. more after the jump.

In the Rain

A boy tries to hold an umbrella over the head of a man he is walking with as rain falls on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 in Athens, Ga.

I wish i was paying more attention sometimes. This photo happened behind me, beside me and i didn't see it until it was all the way down the block. I wish i had their faces and them coming towards the camera.

This image of absolute innocence of a child trying to hold the umbrella over the older, father type figure is just amazing IMO.

And they ran it too.

You can be too close.

An Athens-Clarke firefighter walks past a fireball erupting from the remains of J and J Chemical Company on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in Athens, Ga. The fire broke out around midnight and flared up around 8:15 a.m. The Athens plant produces toilet bowl disinfectant.

Everyone who knows me understands that I am a spot news photographer. I love it, i love the chaotic environment and the stories that come from it. I also like being there and witnessing stuff as it happened.

But there's such a thing as being too close....

Holly Belle at Flicker

I had a chance to step out of the comfort zone of stage light and rock music and caught my friend Holly playing at the Flicker Theater.

(There's no radial blur here, i turned the camera about 30-45 degrees to create the effect.)

Rye Bar Colors

Just a quick photo of a band called "Lassier Funk"that had these really cool lights that made it easy to silhouette the subject.

I also made it the second photo of my unofficial music photo column. I cant get the nice designer (whom i like working with) to get that i want my text to run alongside the photo too. I want to spew forth some of my thoughts on photographing music and the scene here in Athens.

There were just cool colors and i walked 3 blocks to grab my camera and voila....
