Strongest Dawg Competition
Georgia junior Jordan Thomas competes in the bench press during the Strongest Dawg Powerlifting Competition at the University of Georgia's Ramsey Center on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in Athens, Ga. Thomas lifted 255 kilograms in the dead lift competition, the largest weight in the competition.
The other week Georgia's Ramsey Center held a weightlifting competition. It made for interesting pictures.
The absolute challenge to shoot this was that there was not a clean shot. You had 3 judges - making sure the lift was clean - two spotters and four people putting weights on the bar. Add five photojournalism students and suddenly no one can see anything unless you go tight.
Georgia sophomore Jackson Govatos lifts the bar during the bench press during the Strongest Dawg Powerlifting Competition at the University of Georgia's Ramsey Center on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in Athens, Ga. Govatos won the pound-for-pound competition, lifting a total of 527.5 kilograms while weighing 70.
