SkatePark Fun
I have no problem posting this photo on my blog. This or on my wall is the only place you'll ever see it. You'll never see it against that orange sunset ever in a contest or in the paper ANYWHERE.
Why? The sky wasn't really that way. I was trying for it that way. But it didnt turn out that way, it reality wasnt like this and it wasn't close. I fixed it in post to make an ART photo that I've always wanted, skater silhouetted against the sun at sunset.
So to be clear, this is a manipulated art photo. I like it a lot. Its ART, not sports photojournalism.

Modeling in the Rain?
Well I've always wanted to do a "rain" shoot with a model.
Only two major problems with that. 1 - Its hard to control the weather and 2 - rain is COLD.
So we tried this in the shower.... and it didnt necessarily work well in my cramped bathroom.

Baseball Roundup
North Oconee second baseman Clayton Wing is tagged out by Grayson catcher Mike McHugh as Wing tries to score on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning as North Oconee takes on Grayson on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in Bogart, Ga.
Some baseball images from the past two weeks, both Georgia and Prep ball.
I love shooting baseball and i want to get out to more Georgia games, however the schedule is not cooperating.
More photos after the jump....

Late Night Modeling
So a couple of months ago i met this model and we finally worked together the other night.
Two speed lights & shot the whole thing in her apartment.
More after the jump.

250 Foot high Crane
Kaliope "Popi" Fatolitis, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., operates a 250-foot-tall tower crane overtop of the new residence hall in East Campus Village at the University of Georgia on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in Athens, Ga.
For a sports photographer, you'd think I'd be used to heights. I've photographed from catwalks, biplanes, gliders and a zillion other crazy, holy-crap-dont-look down places. Then i met Popi, 135 feet up in the air and her tower crane above UGA's new dorm construction.

Lensbaby Basketball
Arkansas' Dominique Robinson goes for a jump shot as Arkansas faces Vanderbilt in the opening round of the Women's SEC Tournament at Gwinnett Arena on Thursday March 4, 2010 in Duluth, Ga. (Ed. Note. shot with a special effect lens)
I was cleaning up my files from earlier this month and remembered that i shot this. Tilt/shift manual focus basketball.

The Athens Music Collective Showcase
That should be Adam rehearsing backstage with The Burning Angels
Friday night i worked the Athens Music Collective showcase show. 11 Bands, 5 Hours and ALL ACCESS.
Those last two words are what grabbed my attention. Being able to photograph anything, without restriction? Priceless.

Thieves Market at 40 Watt
My friends in Thieves Market played the Athens Music Collective show. Them and Shitty Candy were the heaviest acts on the bill. Both bands put forth the usual, kick-ass performances that they're known for.
I did the polecam/fisheye trick with the top photo. Which was really fun to try and do in the span of 1/2 a song as they were limited to 4 songs.

Shitty Candy and the Circus Peanut at the 40 Watt
Well if you follow me or what I've been up to over the past two weeks, I've seen a lot of punk rock. (Larry and his Flask. Go find it.) So it only seemed fitting now that my hearing is back to catch a quick six-song set by the girls in Shitty Candy as they played the 40 Watt as part of the Athens Music Collective's showcase.

NFL Pro Day at UGA
NFL scouts time lineman Jeff Owens running the 40-yard-dash during Pro Day at the University of Georgia on Tuesday March 16, 2010 in Athens, Ga.
Every year, scouts for all 30 NFL teams come to Georgia to evaluate all of the players that have declared for the NFL draft and push them through drills reminiscent of elementary school, well minus the bench press.
The challenge comes in making an interesting photo out of the deal.

Gymdogs Revisited.
Georgia gymnast Courtney McCool gets a hug from Hilary Mauro after she got a 9.975 on the floor exercise as Georgia beats NC State in gymnastics 196.800-193.900 at Stegeman Coliseum on Sunday, March 14, 2010 in Athens, Ga.
So i actually got to photograph Georgia's gymnastic's team once again. Second time in two years.
Senior night, home meet. Good times.

Lensbaby on Vacation
I'm getting better at focusing the lensbaby in a hurry. I'm enjoying it but after walking around Disney for 2 days with it, its a bit gimmicky. While i like the soft focus look, it can get old.
Besides since i couldnt take concert photos, i walked around Disney for two days and just worked on learning how to use the lensbaby.
More vacation photos after the jump....

Too Much Processing?
There seems to be a trend of overprocessing & photoshopping photos to death these days. Pick up a major sports magazine and you'll see this very same overprocessed, desaturated look in their portraiture.
So naturally i wanted to see exactly how easy it was to do it. So easy it made me die inside a little as a photographer.

A quick attempt at modeling....

Anatomy of a play at the plate.
A play at the plate is about as good as it gets in baseball.
Last week i watched Georgia outfielder Johnathan Taylor try for an inside-the-park home run after a giant miss-play by Stetson's outfielder.
Here's how it all went down.
