Gymdogs Revisited.

Georgia gymnast Courtney McCool gets a hug from Hilary Mauro after she got a 9.975 on the floor exercise as Georgia beats NC State in gymnastics 196.800-193.900 at Stegeman Coliseum on Sunday, March 14, 2010 in Athens, Ga.
So i actually got to photograph Georgia's gymnastic's team once again. Second time in two years.

Senior night, home meet. Good times.

I tried a floor remote with a 14/3.5. TOO DARK as it was 1/500@2500 because they turn off some of the lights in the arena. So my remote that was about 1-2 stops underexposed and just looked like absolute s*&^ except for the beam. Plus the lights at the Coliseum are on a low angle, meaning they get in the shots constantly. The forth-comming multi-million dollar renovation of the Coliseum will not change this or the catwalk layout.

Technical wise, I overshot. A LOT. Motordrived too may sequences as i did not know the routines on the events AT ALL beyond Grace Taylor's bars routine. Great access to shoot the events from (Thanks to Ben & Burkes). Although i must say that photographing with bronchitis really sucks. Cant exactly recommend that.

Georgia gymnast Christa Tanella celebrates after scoring a 9.8 on the uneven parallel bars as Georgia beats NC State in gymnastics 196.800-193.900 at Stegeman Coliseum on Sunday, March 14, 2010 in Athens, Ga.

Thats the jube we want. Celebrate, demmit!

Out of the 4 photographers on the floor, only one regularly is seen at Georgia sporting events. One other photographs for the gymnastics team The other two, NO CLUE. The Georgia sports photography community is pretty tight-knit; we all know each other and then some. Its because of those GWCs (Guys with Cameras) that make me feel awkward and uncomfortable photographing women's gymnastics. I told that to one of the gymnasts; I like photographing the artistry of the sport but it becomes uncomfortable when you get lumped in with those other guys. This is a living and a profession for me.

The irony of this is the sheer amount of male nudity that I photographed of football players this week.

Hilary Mauro on the beam. Very, very good gymnast. She's from Boston. (...and i still think she doesn't have a clue who the Dropkick Murphys are.)
